Other than local businesses, what is another of our loves? Sustainable businesses! Which is why we are so excited that local Essex-based business, Barn Farm Drinks, have won the Economic Sustainability Award after taking part in the 2020 Footprint Drinks Sustainability Awards.
Barn Farm Drinks are big on being kind to the planet. The energy that is generated from their fruit press waste is taken to an anaerobic digestion electricity generation plant, providing renewable and carbon-neutral electricity.
What’s more, but Barn Farm have teamed up with a solar-powered generation company to produce solar energy across 23 acres of their farm, generating 4,640 megawatt-hours per year – enough electricity to power 1,400 homes!
They even harvest the rainwater that falls onto their factory roof and use it to water their crops – so it’s no surprise they’ve won this award.
Impressively, Barn Farm have also recently been announced as a Regional Finalist (East of England) in the Rural Enterprise Category of the Countryside Alliance Awards 2020. The next stage of judging will commence this April, so fingers crossed they keep on this winning streak!
