Kent Life's Food & Drink Awards

Every year Kent Life organise a review of Kent's Food and Drink businesses nominated by readers. The businesses are split into 10 sectors and the top three finalists in each sector are then judged. This year, with the impact of Covid and further restrictions continuing, the judging was completed by 'zoom'.

The Bakehouse at 124 'Best Independent Food and Drink Retailer'

In describing her business, Claire Barton mentioned that 'we are an independent artisan baker and all our baked goods are made on site using traditional baking methods. We pride ourselves in using some of the best locally sourced ingredients we can find'

Greensand Ridge Distillery 'Best Drink Producer'

Will Edge, the owner, mentioned that as well as being a genuinely local distillery, it is also the most sustainable in the UK . 'Our Gins, Fruit Brandies and Rums are made with surplus produce from local growers, combined with a delicate balance of local botanicals and turned into world class spirits'.

Shipbourne Farmers Market 'Best Local Food Drink Initiative'

In March 2020, along with all other Farmers Markets in the county, it became apparent that our market would have to close. 'Following a 'brain storming' session with the Parish Council, we devised the Covid Safe 'On-line/Drive-Thru' solution we are still using today' said Bob Taylor. 'With help from local Parish Councils and our KCC Councillor, we were able to fund the development of the computer system which enabled us to implement the system early April without missing a market!'
