The charity supply hundreds of food parcels, but also sanitary items, toothpaste and washing up liquid to families and individuals in need across the Canterbury & Herne Bay. Most food banks can’t deliver fresh food because of storage and delivery restraints, so Jack’s Veg, an Organic farm in Canterbury, and the foodbank have teamed up to supply fresh veg boxes including eggs, to households on the run up to Xmas. A spokes person from the food bank said: “Fresh veg and eggs will be a great addition to the store cupboard staples that we give out. It will enable individuals or families to do so much more with the contents of the food parcels we supply.’’

Both parties hope the initiative can go further than just the run up to Xmas, and would like to thank everyone who has donated in the past and going forward. Jack recently added: ‘Until we started arranging the collections from our customers we were not aware of the shear volume of demand. With Covid 19 adding further stresses on family life and isolated people, having access to Organic food grown within a 15 mile radius of them gives people that extra inner hug needed this time of year. Our customers are our hero’s, and I cant thank them enough. Food is the one language we all speak.’
