Loc Lac Beef recipe from Wonderchup

Feeds 4. Prep time = 15 minutes. Cooking time = 20 mins

500g rump or sirloin steak
2 baby gem or romaine lettuce broken in half
1 large tomato, halved and sliced
half a red onion, halved and sliced
1 tbsp black & white sesame seeds, dry roasted
20g radishes, thinly sliced
10g picked fresh coriander
5g fresh mint leaves
3tbsp rapeseed oil

For the marinade
Your choice of medium-hot red chilli, roughly chopped or thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
Juice of half a lime
3 tbsp dark soy sauce
2 tbsp Wonderchup
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper

For the dipping sauce
Juice of half a lime
2 tbsp coarsley ground black pepper
star anise


  1. Cut the beef into thin strips and place in a bowl. Add the chilli, chopped garlic, ginger, lime juice, soy sauce, Wonderchup and black pepper.
  2. Leave to marinade for 20 minutes
  3. arrange the lettuce leaves, with sliced tomato equally shared amongst them and sprinkle half the sesame seeds and coriander around a nice serving place or board.
  4. Make the dipping sauce with the remainder of the lime juice & pepper - place this in a bowl in the centre of the plate with star anise.
  5. Heat the oil in a pan, and when smoking take the beef out of the marinade and add to the pan. Keep stirring for 3-5 minutes depending on how you like your beef cooked. Put the beef in the lettuce shells and put the remainder of the marinade in the hot pan and reduce for a few minutes, then pour over the beef and lettuce.
