Not something we were expecting but so proud to receive this and a great boost to all the staff and volunteers who helped us in Lockdown 1.

Back in March 2020, with everyone told to stay home due to the uncertainty of Coronavirus, elderly and vulnerable people found it difficult to source basic food items. With supermarket shortages and queues, we as a company, had to change our business model to adapt to the situation. The doors were shut but our ovens were still turned on. We had a fabulous team of chefs, managers, waiters and waitresses all trained in hospitality and suddenly their world had changed.

It was a quick decision. We had access to fresh produce from suppliers, we had the cooking facilities and the team to help those people who needed it most. We delivered over 100 cooked meals every day to local people who could not get out to shop, creating menus for them and even supplying a roast dinner every Sunday. Although the food was important, we found the greatest gift about our journey was seeing and checking in on these people - making sure we could spend a few minutes everyday reassuring them we could and will get through this and for some, our volunteers were the only people they saw in months.

Although we, The Chequers, were awarded this great award, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Thanks, David & Jess x
