Work starts on ornamental orchard at Brogdale

On a murky November morning, Brogdale Collections welcomed the arrival of 30 new ornamental cherry trees to their orchards in Faversham.

Despite the foggy weather, Brogdale hopes this very important tree planting heralds a positive future for the Charity and a sign of good things yet to come.

The thirty trees were donated by the Sakura Cherry Tree Project, which celebrates the relationship between Britain and Japan. The trees will form the beginning of a beautiful new ornamental orchard at Brogdale, which the charity hopes will be enjoyed by thousands of visitors over the coming years and decades.

Sara Smile, operations manager at Brogdale says: “Like many other organisations and charities, Brogdale has struggled in 2020. After a year of firefighting, it is heart-warming to welcome these small trees knowing they will grow into a beautiful orchard and play an important role in Brogdale’s future.”

The trees were planted this week by a team of Brogdale’s intrepid volunteers.

During the current restrictions, Brogdale is still able to welcome visitors to its orchards. For details visit their website www.brogdalecollections.org
